there is a sense of urgency increasingly infecting the human condition, fragmenting our attention span, accelerating our needs and often influencing our motives when making creative decisions. the result is a lack of dynamics, there is no ebb or flow, its �go� time, all the time. electronic music is one of the clearest examples of a widening division between great art created in a deeply imaginative vaccum and the soulessly formulaic and branded product that serves the impatient masses. what draws the esp institute to benedikt frey is his ability to operate on the fringe, outside the constructs artists constantly channel themselves into - his art speaks a pure language that is realized by any means necessary, a process devised solely to articulate his own message, one delivered with patience, never rushed nor dictated by the outside world. artificial was written and produced over two years, tirelessly sculpted into a sequence abstract pieces that are fiercely independent but accumulate layers of meaning when collaged. it is electronic and rhythm-based, but never reliant on any prescribed instrumentation, arrangement or expecatation. this is our idea of well conceived and executed album, not simply a collection of tracks but a complex narrative that unfolds over peaks and valleys, pulling the listener into emotional corners before leaving a residual impression. some may describe music very well in words, but there is always something lost in translation - a story only the music itself can tell.

house for her is a label founding its birth in the need that she s gone had to express his feelings in his mixes and productions. the time came to him, 1 year ago to give the floor to other people, to let everyone build pieces of music around their lived experience. in this release, the four artists came to cover in mist the wax in a cascade of tablecloths sometimes soft and other times more aggressive, to develop a ep rich in questioning, ranging from dance pieces to other more ambient things, linking them together to tell a story. raär and mp-57, as usual, darkened in the pile, revealing brutal tracks but nevertheless completely full of feelings. devant, with a more colorful touch, has come to appease the ep of a piece of a house deep and sexy, endowed with an atmosphere reminding us much nostalgia. and finally entrave, in a final piece, quietly envelops us to finish to walk in this ep, as in a novel, a kind of sombre happy-end.

zona del silencio or the zone of silence is an area deep in the mexican desert. it is the home of several rare, mutant species of animals (including the purple cactus and a malformed version of the desert tortoise). the area�s name derives from an odd anomaly that prohibits radio waves from transmitting inside the zone. when asked about the strange phenomena, the locals invariably reply that they do not see strange things in the desert, only strange people. play this record three times and the idwt gang will appear in your mirror and smoke you out.

being selfish, is one of the good things about running your own label. if you please, you can just try and re-release that certain record that you always wanted for yourself, but never could get your hand on it. now, you can just edit it the way you always wanted it to be (oh, those fade-outsà) and press it up. this is one of these occasions. when kalk (the collaborative project of philippe heinen and joffrey becker) was released on julien briffaz label brif in 1999, i just had started to dj out at a club in darmstadt (the late cafÚ kesselhaus) and the restrained, yet punchy house tracks symbolized what i liked about deep house back then: a mellow alternative to the bpm hunt and rigid attitude in mainstream techno, while not losing itself in chin-stroking wisdom or pesky noodling. it seemed that there werent too many around with the same desire. otherwise akasha wouldnt have remained a diamond in disguise and not what morgan geist so aptly named an unclassic. by his definition, that is: an old by and large forgotten record that would have deserved to be hit. if you take discogs as an indicator, more and more people start to think so though. here is your second chance to obtain a copy of the spirit of kalk. mildly edited and restored in the best human-possible way. mind you, its old house music from days of yore. dj gj

late august will see b.soul music limited release the various artists package thanks 4 nothin , a four-track vinyl only release from the tuscan imprint. marcos baiano s b.soul imprint was launched in 2013 and across its back catalogue has welcomed an array of classic and contemporary talents onto its roster from house legend jovonn through to music for freaks co-founder justin harris and parisian producer terence :terry. here we see the label push on with its second vinyl release set to be released via its ltd offshoot and offered up as a various artist four track package. bosconi soundsystem artist rufus takes the lead on the release with realize dis with classic house tropes, employing a bumpy swinging rhythm as the foundation whilst murky pad swells and spoken word vocals ebb and flow throughout the composition. label-head marcos baiano follows with nullll , stripping things back to shuffled hats and wandering rave stabs before the latter stages introduce a warm ethereal pad. opening up the flip side is retro activity aka ivan iacobucci s rocket edging things into techno territory with weighty drums, mind bending synth flutters and an ever-unfolding, billowing atmosphere. drmc s do not disturb then closes the package on a minimal tip with modulating percussion, minute organic drum shots and airy pad lines laid out over its seven and a half minutes.

the second ep of samuel rohrer�s range of regularity album presents two more striking reinterprations. these new remixes provide an intriguing parallax view of the original tracks, using the percussive eclecticism of the parent lp as a starting point from which to journey into sonically vibrant, feature-rich territories. the production specialists on hand for this project include burnt friedman and ricardo villalobos. villalobos, has already formed a strong working relationship with rohrer�s ambiq trio, lends his talents to both of the eps. (ror remixes i - amel-ep716). nonplace label boss friedman, as well, has carved out a unique space for himself within the electronic world, logging several decades� worth of releases that with dub-wise production sensibility, skewed humor, and riots of tone color. though each individual remix has its own character, they are all united in their ability to provide a quick cure for fatigue with the common �loop�: though not improvised, they are strung together from fleeting phrases that evolve as if they are taking on a life independent of their creators. burnt friedman�s own dramatic interpretation of �microcosmoism� pairs up his consciousness of deep bass and analog inventiveness with rohrer�s continually transforming sound objects, making for a flowing and wordless narrative that simply dares listeners to stop paying attention. feeling more like a collaboration in �real time� than a remix proper, friedman brings his characteristic �mad scientist� wit to the proceedings and delivers an energetic piece that simply glows in the dark. this is complemented nicely by villalobos� remix of �microcosmoism�. it carries the energy level of the 1st ep over to a new disk, while heavily experimenting with feelings of emotional ambiguity. at some points aggressive and at other points merely curious, this mischievous collage of attitudes feels as inspired by the questing jazz of sun ra as it is by continental techno. contemplative keyboard runs, enthusiastic spring-like percussion and malfunctioning machine chatter all coalesce to make this a most fascinating piece of multi-purpose electronic music.

the intergalactic research institute for sound presents de, a compilation of various artists representing georgian electronic and ambient music. / de is a compilation of music from artists of different backgrounds getting together in order to showcase the dynamic influences within the georgian scene. tbilisi is getting worldwide recognition at the moment for its booming club scene, but what this project aims to illustrate is what is happening outside of the club context. natalie beridze who has been performing worldwide since 2004 is known as the first female electronic music artist in georgia, rezo glonti has built his studio inside the hull of his boat, and zesknel is a resident of the renowned bassiani club, while myi and severiane were discovered thanks to myspace, soundcloud, and word-of-mouth. all these talents manage in their own ways to present / de, with murky and melancholic cuts. melancholia is at the core of beauty in georgia. that is not the case in germany and many other cultures, where melancholia is often charged and bound to a negative feeling, which some might perceive as weakness. consequently, one could be tempted to say that even if it�s electronic music, de has a traditional georgian quality. but that would be putting art in boxes or cases because what is georgian art nowadays, when so many artists from this origin are scattered around? as giorgi maisuradze states in his mission statement for de, the world is their home.

juxta position returns once more to his own imprint with two slices of epic techno. kinaesthesia is a subtle tool track with added depth, as waves of synth chords wash over deep percussion in increasing intensity. barrier block however hits straight between the eyes, with its fusion of varying styles. a half breakbeat rhythm section builds in intensity before an early 90�s frankfurt influenced melodic synth construction reveals itself, culminating in a spectacular crescendo. two more essential cuts for your box, do not miss!

figure jams is back with a another fresh and exciting pairing of artists. this time the record is a collection of pure analogue goodness, sparkling ripe with synthesizer magic. the a-side comes courtesy of duo-of-the-moment twr72, who happen to distill perfection through simplicity in their stripped-back productions. while�polished is a pulsating bit of beatless yet captivating clean-cut loops, their other contribution shows their talent at crafting something lean, dry and punchy, which is still undeniably driving and hypnotic. picking up on the synth-heavy theme of this release is st. petersburgs finest aleksey niktin aka nocow. inspired by the endless baltic winters, the producer packs his tracks with emtions that feel cold but not icy, engulfing the listener in winching waves of melancholic electronica.

as the summer closes and the autumn arrives the project releases its next selection with label boss frazer campbell and dark arts techno head stu crosbie. not a stranger to the label having appeared on the previous release stuart once again delivers his unique filtered sound of stripped back minimal techno with hints of trippy yet groovy influences of dark back room excursions. a real master of simplicity but exact definition of sombre sounds. the flip side presents a very different sonic description by frazer. �bleeding gums� holds broken beat kicks with rolling drums but as always carries a true sense of emotion and warmth. the ep closes with �deebling mugs� which is a production full of drive, dirty basslines and groove that will keep any dance floor moving as we wave goodbye to the summer of 2017.

this limon is sweet, not sour! austin boogie crew records presensts its newest 45 release: the solo vinyl debut of san franciscos own trailer limon (dan meisenheimer). as one half of the pendletons (along with e da boss), limon has been leaving his imprint on the modern funk scene since 2010 with classic singles like waiting on you, let me turn you on, and most recently on the gotta get out ep. this solo 45 features two choice cuts with appearances from west coast heavy hitters e. live and b. bravo. dancing with somebody is a sleek and sexy mid-tempo delight where limon croons about dancing with a stranger while another lover is on his mind. steppers will adore the bumping drums, soaring keys, and resonant bass that peeks its head out at the perfect times. too good.

for the 4th release on lit level, we have music by dj twerkbone, bringing in some soulful vibes. love trax with his warm hazy sounds. on the flip side james henry delivers, as the name of the track suggest, a party track. last but not least is the stomping techno workout of Åmnfx.

tomoki tamuras holic trax label has long been renowned as a canny exporter of clued in house and techno. their latest continues in this regard, as tamura again calls on a series of renowned label friends to bring the heat. with names such as mr.g, satoshi tommie and tuccillo all appearing it here alongside tamura himself, it s no surprise that this 3 x vinyl record, celebrating 5 years of the label, is filled with drama and high points throughout. this is immediately obvious from mr.gs soba shioyaki. titled in homage to the label s japanese heritage, it s a dark and dexterous workout that marks another high point in a career filled with big records. deep but tough, it s a perfect of why the tech house master is so revered in underground circles. gs komorebi- puts a tough emphasis on the drums, as well as a weaving, subtle baseline that adds a further dynamic to his work here. ht24 comes from satoshi tommiie & tuccillo, two producers whose sounds are perfectly suited to holic s output. their four-track contribution starts with do it, a spiky catchy number that s exciting from the off. -what row- sees the boys inject some added funk into the equation, before to ray ups the intensity with a raw, pulverising aesthetic that takes no prisoners. wrapping up their side of the bargain is the digital only you know, a real bumper of a track with chicago-inspired synth stabs that help bring it to higher planes. it s the left to tamura himself to close the offering via ht25. a1, the appropriately named -5ive years is a techno workout of the type that s notable for its off-kilter motifs and a stubborn, industrial feel. unforgiving and full of atmosphere, it s the sign of a producer who clearly knows his way around he mixing deck. polyphonic six displays the producer s more introspective sound thanks to a melancholic perspective that s hard not to embrace. all things told, this is a wonderfully diverse package from tamura & co. here s to the next 5!
